NECK DISSECTION AT MEDIKERI’S SUPER SPECIALITY ENT CENTRE

At Medikeri’s Super Speciality ENT Centre, we provide advanced and meticulous neck dissection procedures as part of comprehensive treatment for head and neck cancers. Our skilled surgical team ensures safe removal of lymph nodes and affected tissues while preserving important structures to maintain functionality and quality of life.
PROCEDURE OVERVIEW
Neck dissection involves the surgical removal of lymph nodes and surrounding tissue in the neck to manage or prevent the spread of cancer. It is commonly performed for cancers of the oral cavity, larynx, pharynx, or thyroid. The extent of dissection depends on cancer staging and spread.
ANESTHESIA & PREPARATION
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Preoperative assessment includes imaging (CT, MRI, PET scans), biopsy reports, and staging of the primary tumor. Patients receive thorough counseling regarding the procedure, possible nerve preservation, and postoperative expectations.
SURGICAL TECHNIQUES
Different types of neck dissections are performed based on the extent of disease:
Radical Neck Dissection removes all lymph node levels along with the spinal accessory nerve, internal jugular vein, and sternocleidomastoid muscle.
Modified Radical Neck Dissection preserves one or more of these structures.
Selective Neck Dissection targets specific lymph node levels, preserving non-involved structures.
MINIMALLY INVASIVE APPROACHES
In selected cases, endoscopic or robotic-assisted neck dissections may be used for better cosmetic outcomes and reduced tissue trauma. These approaches are especially beneficial in early-stage cancers or for patients desiring minimal scarring.
CLOSURE & RECOVERY
After removal of lymphatic tissue, careful hemostasis is achieved, and drainage tubes are placed to prevent fluid accumulation. The incision is closed with cosmetic techniques. Patients are monitored postoperatively for nerve function, wound healing, and drainage output.
POST-SURGICAL CARE
Patients may require physiotherapy to regain shoulder and neck mobility if nerves were involved. Nutritional support, pain management, and wound care are part of the recovery process. Follow-up visits and adjunct therapies like radiation or chemotherapy are planned based on pathology.
CONCLUSION
At Medikeri’s Super Speciality ENT Centre, our expertise in neck dissection ensures precise cancer control while preserving as much function and appearance as possible. We are committed to providing personalized, multidisciplinary care for optimal oncological and functional outcomes.
