Tympanoplasty – Repair of the Eardrum (Tympanic Membrane)

TYMPANOPLASTY AT MEDIKERI’S SUPER SPECIALITY ENT CENTRE
At Medikeri’s Super Speciality ENT Centre, we specialize in advanced ear surgeries, including tympanoplasty—a highly effective procedure to repair a perforated eardrum and restore hearing. Our team of skilled ENT surgeons combines precise diagnostics with advanced surgical techniques to ensure optimal outcomes and long-term ear health.
PROCEDURE OVERVIEW
Tympanoplasty begins with a detailed evaluation of the ear, including otoscopic examination, audiometry, and imaging tests to assess the size and location of the perforation and the condition of middle ear structures. Based on the diagnosis, a tailored surgical plan is created to ensure effective repair and hearing restoration.
ANESTHESIA & PREPARATION
The surgery is performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on patient comfort and case complexity. The operative site is prepared under sterile conditions to minimize infection risk. Patients are provided with preoperative guidelines to ensure a safe and smooth surgical experience.
SURGICAL REPAIR
An incision is made either inside the ear canal or behind the ear. A tissue graft—typically harvested from the patient’s own fascia or cartilage—is delicately placed over the perforated eardrum. In cases involving ossicular chain damage, additional repair or reconstruction may be performed to improve sound transmission.
MINIMALLY INVASIVE TECHNIQUES
Whenever possible, endoscopic approaches are used to minimize tissue disruption, improve surgical accuracy, and speed up recovery. These modern techniques reduce the need for larger incisions, lower the risk of complications, and provide enhanced visualization of the middle ear.
CLOSURE & RECOVERY
After graft placement, the area is carefully closed and supported using medicated packing materials or sponges inside the ear canal. These help stabilize the graft and promote proper healing. Patients are monitored postoperatively to ensure comfort and stability before discharge.
POST-SURGICAL CARE
Patients receive clear instructions on ear care, activity restrictions, and prescribed medications to support recovery. Water exposure and nose-blowing are typically avoided in the initial weeks. Follow-up visits are essential to monitor healing, remove packing, and evaluate hearing improvement over time.
At Medikeri’s Super Speciality ENT Centre, we are committed to restoring hearing and improving quality of life through advanced tympanoplasty techniques. Our patient-centric approach ensures safe, precise, and effective treatment outcomes for individuals with eardrum perforations and related ear conditions.
